Apple shipped RavMonE.exe Virus on iPods

Some of the Video iPods available for purchase after September 12, 2006 contains the Windows RavMonE.exe virus!

RavMonE.exe virus propagates via mass storage devices, so it is recommended to scan any storage devices that were attached to infected Windows computer. For example USB flash drives, external hard drives, etc.

RavMonE.exe virus is a Windows virus and anti-virus software using the default settings should detect and remove it.

This part really got my attention :
I asked the other victims at the Nokia shop if their units were still working. All said yes, aside from pesky warnings about unsent messages and corrupted files. Disinfecting took two hours because there were so many of us.

There were so many of us! It means they have real problem there and it is not very encouraging for all of us.

Tips for Cell Phone Users - Precautions

The following precautions should be taken to prevent infection of your cell phone:

  • 1. Accustom yourself to disable bluetooth if you don't use it.

    This will not only decrease probability of being infected over bluetooth but it also saves the battery of your cell phone, because bluetooth consumes a lot of batery power.

    If you have to use bluetooth, then the minimum you should do is setting the bluetooth to the invisible mode (go to the bluetooth menu and set it to be #non-discoverable# or #hidden#).
